Senator Nelson Effiong representing Eket Senatorial District in the senate. has defected to the APC. Sen. Effiong was a one time Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. His defection was announced by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, today.

Senator Effiong asserted that he took the decission because of what he observed as consistent rancur and internal infighting in the party.

Down home, Senator Effiongs kinsmen from Oron Nation are celebrating his radical movement from PDP to APC. In his own reaction, Dr Edunam asked Senator Akpabio to mind his business and allow the decampee to excecise his foundamental right. Edunam said Senator Effiong can no longer continue to work against the interest of his people..
Other friends see Senator Effiong as a lazy and ungrateful politician who could not have won the ticket to the Senate but not for the former governor now Senate minority leader Chief Godswill Akpabio, and wondered why Effiong betrayed Akpabio and PDP. Senator Effiong according to reports has been assure of maximum support by Obong Umanah Okon Umanah , the managing director of oil and gas free zone.
